This encounter marks the first meeting between the two teams since matchday two in August of the previous year when Bayern Munich secured a 3-1 home victory.

Augsburg recently ended a four-game winless streak in the Bundesliga with a come-from-behind 2-1 away victory against Borussia Monchengladbach last weekend. Despite trailing at halftime, Augsburg turned the game around in the second half with goals from Phillip Tietz and Arne Engels in the first six minutes.
